We realized it's been 5 months since the kids posted about their experiences, so this post is long overdue!
Avery: Um...There is a lot to talk about, seeing as how I haven't posted anything since May. So, to start things off, I'm going to talk about the general way of how things are going. I am currently split between the Middle School class and the High School class. My Reading and Math class is in the morning with the High School because my math and reading are on a higher level. After lunch, I go to the Middle School class for Geography and Social Studies. It is an interesting schedule but I like it. Anyway, I have made a pretty good friend group here. They are fun people to be around, and after a year they're still there. It still feels weird having been been in Alaska for a year. And although I have been here for some time, I still find myself missing a lot of people. Especially my Mama Sue and Papa Joe. I still miss waking up at 6:30 every morning so that Mama Sue could drive us to school. A big thing I miss doing with them is sleeping over at their house and waking up early to go to Gatesville to go to church with them. And on Wednesdays, to go to Bible Drill. I also miss Lizzy, Kyle, and little bro, Grayson. That group is so fun to be around. That little kid is growing up way too fast. But he is being raised well (and super duper fun to be around!) Good job, Lizzy and Kyle! I miss y'all! Hopefully y'all can come up this summer. We'd have some real fun. I feel like time is going by too fast. It's almost Christmas! But that means Jadyn will be here soon. Also, I want to thank Tim and Darinda for sending us all those yummy treats. :) And Emmy's going to talk about our student council trip so...
Thank you to everybody and I miss y'all! :)
Joshua: So some notable things have happened since the last time I posted. For example, I went to a welding camp in Fairbanks to learn more about welding and different ways on how to weld. However, the place where we were staying wasn't great; the food was okay, the wifi/internet was horrible, and there was no physical activity. But in the end I was able to weld together a birdhouse and was able to take it back home.
On a different happier note, we were able to get my dog Forrest up here. On the one hand, he cost a lot of money to get up here, but it was worth it because the way he acts up here in the snow is hilarious. He somehow finds hidden energy that is nonexistent during the summer and runs around in the snow constantly until I have to tell him to go inside. Another event...it was really nice in the house when Avery and Emmy left for their student council trip because my parents and I were able to clean the house and keep it clean for a week. It was peaceful and quiet without them and it was very nice until they came back and wreaked havoc in our room and made it a mess again. So, those are the notable things that have happened since the last time I posted, so see you next post and have a happy Thanksgiving!
Emily: My mummy got me sick. Right before I left on an important trip for student council. I'll talk about the trip from start to finish. We left on Wednesday, Nov. 6th, on a plane that was so packed I couldn't move to stretch. The conference was in Anchorage, and I definitely like Anchorage more than Fairbanks. During the conference, we talked about the issues in our schools and districts, which was the whole point of it. I finally got to go shopping in a real life store, not Amazon. I would also like to say that I very much love my Grandma. I'll call at the most random times and she will pick up and talk to me. I had a streak of calling her while she was shopping, like it was meant to be. I love talking to people back at home and I'm excited to try a new recipe that my aunt Naomi gave me. I have been getting videos of my cousins using a filter from snapchat and that brightens my day.
I've been taking a college class and, to say the least, I don't like it. He has AI grade all the assignments, so I don't want to even try. I would've failed, but my mom and dad were a huge help getting me started and helping me complete assignments. It was funny because close to the beginning of the school year, my counselor gave me the option to graduate early. I was very tempted to say yes, just to get out of here and join Jadyn, but I knew I am NOT ready to leave. I wanted to stay here to learn as much as I can from everyone who is willing to teach me.
I'm going to end off by telling you guys how my eyesight and hearing test went at school. Now, if you know me, you know I'm supposed to wear glasses. I don't. Something I have to work on, but I took the test and I can confidently say I am legally blind and also deaf in my right ear. (joking.....kind of) Anyways, thank you for reading this and I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Photos of our landscape lately:
Our life lately:
Halloween was a lot of fun this year, with a Halloween Carnival at the school, as well as the usual shenanigans at the Tribal Hall. My class enjoyed the creepy Jello brain, which the boys thoroughly enjoyed eating. My class also won at a blackout Bingo contest for the district's virtual parade, and as such, we had donuts delivered to our classroom. Unfortunately, the success of shipping food from Fairbanks to Kaltag really depends on how and when it's loaded onto the puddle jumper that brings it here. Needless to say, of the dozen donuts that were sent, 10 frozen ones survived, with the other two being retrieved from the depths of the cargo hold. Since we were all there to unload the plane, Josh didn't hesitate to claim those two for his own. My protests of sanitation considerations didn't impede his determination one bit.
Since we're now mostly in single digits and negative temps, all vehicles require being plugged in before use, to protect the engine from the cold. We're actually colder at this point, than we were last year, and the surface of the river has already frozen up. The river may actually be safe for traveling within the next month, a full month earlier than last year.
All in all, life is moving forward, and we're looking forward to Thanksgiving Break. It's amazing to think how fast this year feels like it's moving, and most of the time, I feel like I'm running behind it, trying to keep up. I hope to post sooner, rather than later. Until then, we hope this post finds you all well!
